Also known as occlusion, hypoxic or KAATSU training, BFR is the process of restricting blood flow out of the working muscle by wrapping a tourniquet-like strap to the top of your arms or legs. The tight material allows blood to flow into your arms or legs through arteries but limits the amount of blood that can leave the limbs through your veins. This restriction creates numerous changes within the body during exercise that has been found to increase muscle strength/size, optimize recovery from injury and enhance aerobic capacity. BFR Training is a type of training where you restrict the blood flow from the muscle you are working and the heart. When you do that, this causes metabolic stress and encourages the muscle to grow. You also help encourage muscle growth by keeping compounds such as growth hormone in the muscle longer. Today we are going to use BFR Training Cuffs. You can find these on Amazon. Here is a link to a pair of BFR Training Cuffs: 🤍 Bring the band right up to where your bicep inserts, somewhere in the middle of your arm. Tighten it to about a 7/10 tightness. We find around that level to be optimal for BFR Training. Set up an exercise to around 15-30% of your one rep max. Here is our BFR Training Workout: 1. Tricep Pressdown - 30 Reps 2. BFR can be used with resistance training, or with other modalities, including walking. Programs of resistance training with BFR and low loads (20 – 30% of 1RM) appear to increase strength. BFR programs appear to increase strength more than resistance training without BFR when using matched (low) relative loads but are either similar in efficacy or slightly less effective than conventional resistance training with unmatched (high) relative loads. Programs of resistance training with BFR and low loads (20 – 30% of 1RM) appear to produce hypertrophy. BFR programs appear to increase muscular size better than resistance training without blood flow restriction when using matched (low) relative loads but are similar in efficacy to conventional resistance training with unmatched (high) relative loads. There is some evidence that resistance training with BFR might be able to improve muscular power, sprint running speed, and endurance, and that non-resistance training methods (like walking) with blood flow restriction can cause hypertrophy, although there is more limited research in these areas. The mechanisms by which BFR might lead to enhanced adaptations to training compared to similar exercise without BFR are still largely unclear. Blood Flow Restriction Training done with physical therapy resistance bands. Also known as "occlusion training", "tourniquet training", and "blood flow restriction" training "BFR". #shorts #bicep #biceps This training hack has allowed me to get great muscle growth results with a lighter-than-usual weight. This is because the tourniquet occludes just a portion of the venous flow return to the heart. This results in the building of metabolic waste products such as lactic acid. Think of occlusion training, or BFR as a chemical stressor. When lifting heavy weights, resistance is a mechanical stressor on the muscles, bones, and joints... Using BFR as a chemical stressor allows you to let your body heal from any mechanical damage or injury while continuing to train your body for performance, healing, or aesthetics.

“Quad Gains With BFR” [Quadriceps Exercise Advice] TAG SOMEONE who needs help with growing and strengthening their quadriceps‼️ Demonstrated in this post are exercise progressions targeting the quadriceps muscle group combined with Blood Flow Restriction (BFR). Simply put, BFR is a combination of arterial and venous occlusion using a tourniquet ➡️ and when combined with low-intensity resistance training (20-30% 1RM) ➡️ can trick the body to induce muscular hypertrophy and strength adaptations ➡️ which typically would not occur at these training intensities. This is an extremely valuable technique for individuals that would benefit from muscle size and strength gains, which typically occur with moderate to high intensity resistance training. However, due to some specific reason (injury, surgery, diagnosis) ❌ 🙅♀️🙅♂️they’re not appropriate for intense training at this time. 1️⃣ Quad Burnouts On A Wedge ➡️ my man 🤍wesbuckles uckles is killing this quad finisher that is an absolute burner 🔥 If people can tolerate loads of 20-40% 1RM, but have issues with heavier loading and they need strength/hypertrophy, supplementing BFR is an easy decision. I like this for individuals at the end of sessions. 2️⃣ LAQs with band ➡️ A great isolated quad exercise that can be used early on in rehab or to address quad size/strength deficits. I sometimes also use this to finish a session as well, especially with ACLs. 3️⃣ Quad Isometrics With NMES ➡️ A cell swelling protocol is a great way to introduce someone to BFR for the first time or when someone is limited to table / non-weight bearing exercises.
