It was built in the early 12th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its stunning architecture and intricate carvings are a must-see. We had so much getting soaked and interacting with the local Cambodian people. It was a party we will always remember. There are also traditional dance performances and cultural shows to enjoy. Beautiful Landscapes: Siem Reap is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including rice paddies, jungles, and rivers. You can take a boat ride on the Tonle Sap Lake, visit a floating village, or explore the countryside by bike. Friendly People: Cambodian people are known for their warm hospitality and friendly nature. You will likely be greeted with a smile wherever you go in Siem Reap. We made a life long friend with our cab driver, who showed us the beauty of the area for our entire trip. There visitors can explore the most impressive and well-preserved examples of Khmer architecture in the world. The history of Siem Reap dates back to the Khmer Empire, which ruled much of Southeast Asia from the 9th to the 15th century. The city played an important role in the Angkor civilization, serving as the capital city during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Today the city of Siem Reap center offers a few tourist attractions, including the "Pub Street". This central walking street is filled with bars and restaurants. The Old Market is located nearby. Cambodian Water Festival or Bon Om Touk, is celebrated in late October or early November, often corresponding with the lunar Mid-Autumn Festival. It marks the end of the monsoon season. The festivities are accompanied by dragon boat races with large crowds gathering on the riverside. The festival is celebrated over the span of three days and commemorates the end of the rainy season, as well as the change in flow of the Tonlé Sap River.
