ENTRANDO A VIGO - PONTEVEDRA SCENIC DRIVE 4K 🚗 Vigo es un municipio y una ciudad de España situado en la provincia de Pontevedra, comunidad autónoma de Galicia. This video will help you navigate the port city of Vigo, Spain. It lies just north of Portugal on the coast of Galicia. It is an easy port to manage on foot without a tour, howe ver, it is built in ascending terraces and requires uphill walking or climbing stairs. For snacks, Vigo offers tapas or pintxos like pulpo (squid), paella (rice with a medley of seafood and vegetables), mussels and sangria. The Rug de Principe is the main pedestrian boulevard with lots of shopping. The Castro de Vigo is an 2000 year old archeological site, the Parque del Monte Cristiana is a lovely park and the Castiello do Casto offers views of the city down to the coast. Make sure to visit the old town of Casco Vella. Just outside Vigo, you can visit O Grove for beaches, nature and hot springs, Cabados, noted for its white wine called Albarino, Combarro, a small, mystical seaside town known for harboring witches, and Baiaona, a small town lying on the famous route of the Camino de Santiago de Campostela where the Pinta returned after "discovering" the New World. This video was taken during our P&O Britannia Mediterranean Cruise in September/October 2021. This cruise port stop was at Vigo in Spain. This was the second time that we had stopped at Vigo, although the first time it wasn't good weather which always influences how you feel about a port stop. This time the weather was brilliant, gorgeous blue skies and lovely and warm. That immediately made us feel better about the port :) We started off by walking through the town up towards the Castelo do Castro area. This is fairly high and involves quite a lot of steps and uphill walking. Lovely views from the top though, so worth it if you can do it! The grounds around this area, Parque Monte do Castro are also good, so again... worth the walk. From there, we actually went for quite a long walk around the town, but didn't really find anything too interesting to video. We aren't a fan of cities or busy streets, so for us, not ideal. We would far rather be walking along a nice seafront or somewhere high up with views. We don't really like shopping much either, but I did want to pop into one of my fave stores, Decathlon. (We don't have one anywhere near where we live, so always like to take the opportunity to pop into one when we are near one). According to Google, the Decathlon store was back down near the cruise port (ish), so as we were heading back anyway, we called in. The Decathlon store was actually inside the Centro comercial Vialia Estación de Vigo, which looked like it was fairly new shopping centre. Lots of shops in there, so if you like that sort of thing, you may want to wander down there from the cruise port. Easy walk and flat. From there, we wandered back closer to the port and after a quick look around, had a couple of Mojitos at a little bar just near the terminal entrance. With Portugal under a fresh set of lockdown rules, I quickly made a beeline to the Spanish frontier and decided to take a spontaneous tour of Galicia Province, located just one hour north of Porto. Covering 300 km in 24 hours, my journey would take me to the artistic riverside community of Vigo, the stunning millennia-old Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, and to the Atlantic coast to check out the 1st Century lighthouse in A Coruña (the oldest extant lighthouse in the world!). This is the greenest region of Spain, and also its least-visited Province.
