If you want to customize soap down to the last ingredient, cold process is a great option. Cold process soap is made by combining oils and sodium hydroxide lye. That causes a chemical reaction called saponification. Melt and pour soap has already gone through that process. Once you find your perfect recipe you can start getting creative with the designs. You get to choose the oils, colorants, scents, and more. In this video, we go over the basic tools and ingredients you need to get started. We also go over safety when working with lye, how to make soap, and how to clean up. Find more resources below! My favorite cold process soap recipe // palm free + vegan

🟢Get the soap formulator’s workbook + a free recipe booklet here → 🤍 In this soap making video I share my favorite cold process soap recipe right now. This soap is palm free and vegan, and in my humble opinion, the best handmade soap recipe😎 I often make this soap with a few variations. This time, I tried it with grapeseed oil and I really liked the end result. I also experimented with alkanet root infused olive oil to try to achieve a natural purple color. It worked out okay, but I think I could’ve used a bit more alkanet for a more intense color. Do you want to learn how to formulate your own favorite soap recipe? Check out the soap formulator’s workbook here: 🤍 Thank you for watching! Please wear proper safety equipment when making soap. My favorite cold process soap recipe: Recipe calculated with: 🤍 Oils: 192 g alkanet root infused olive oil (32%) 42 g castor oil (7%) 36 g grapeseed oil (6%) 168 g coconut oil (28%) 90 g shea butter (15%) 72 g cocoa butter (12%) Lye solution: 125 g distilled water 10 g citric acid 89.8 g sodium hydroxide (83.8 g if not using citric acid) (40% lye concentration, 5% superfat) Additives: 45 g coconut cream 10 ml fragrance oil for a light scent Cure the soap for 4-6 weeks before using it on your skin. ○ Citric acid information When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap. A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water. These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap. A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases. Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level. How much citric acid should be added to soap? Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight. How to use citric acid Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils. The Best Cold Process Soap Recipe (extra moisture and lots of lather)

This is a great recipe for a bar of soap that everyone in the family can use. It is moisturizing, has lots of lather, and is gentle on the skin. If you want a printable version of the recipe, grab it here: 🤍 Beginner Soap Makers, Read This First: 🤍 The Best Cold Process Soap Recipe: 11 oz. coconut oil 9 oz. olive oil 9 oz. palm oil 2 oz. sweet almond oil 4 oz. castor oil 4 oz. avocado oil 2 oz. mango butter 5.83 oz of lye 10-15 oz. water 3 T. of fragrance (for a strong scent, vary this to your preferences) Instructions: 1. Using a digital scale, measure out the lye and water in separate glass containers. Combine them by adding the lye to the water. (Remember: snow floats on the lake.). Stir until the lye dissolves. The temperature will shoot up. Place this in a safe place to cool. 2. While the lye solution is cooling, measure out the oils and butters and combine them in a large stainless pot. Melt them over low heat and heat them up to 130-140 degrees. Set them aside to cool. 3. After 2 hours, check the temperature of both solutions. They should be around 110 degrees. (A range of 100-120 is fine.). If not, allow them to cool longer. 4. Prepare your mold and measure out any fragrance or color you will be adding. (For best blending of colors, mix some color into a few drops of melted oils.). If using sodium lactate, add it to the lye water at this time. 5. Pour the water and lye solution into the pot with the melted oils. Blend with a stick blender until thin trace is reached. The soap batter will noticeable thicken and a trail of soap will sit on top of the liquid rather than immediately sinking in. (This will take about 1 minute.). Add the color and fragrance and stir by hand. 6. Immediately pour the soap batter into the mold. Place in a turned off oven or wrap with blankets to insulate the soap. 7. After 24 hours of curing, unmold and cut into bars. The bars may seem slightly soft but will harden considerably during the curing process. Allow to cure at least 3 weeks in a well-ventilated place. RESIZED 30 OUNCE BATCH for smaller molds: Almond oil: 1.46 ounces Avocado oil: 2.92 ounces Castor Oil: 2.92 ounces Coconut Oil: 8.05 ounces Mango butter: 1.46 ounces Olive Oil: 6.58 ounces Palm Oil: 6.58 ounces Lye: 4.25 ounces Water: 7-11 ounces Hi there and welcome to my channel, Heart’s Content Farmhouse. In this video we will be creating a purple and white soap scented with natural Lavender essential oil and topped with Lavender flowers. We will be using ultramarine violet oxide, which is a nature identical soap colourant, meaning it is mined naturally from the earth but has gone through a process to remove heavy metals and other nasties that you wouldn't want to bathe in! Our soaps are all palm oil free and this one is vegan friendly too. The ingredients we used for this soap are as follows: Water 220g Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) 109g Olive Oil 340g Coconut Oil 184g Shea Butter 75g Cocoa Butter 36g Castor Oil 57g Sweet Almond Oil 99g Ultramarine Violet Oxide 0.8g (plus a little additional to create pencil line in the soap) Lavender Essential Oil 20ml Lavender Flowers - a few sprinkled on top! Homemade activated charcoal soap // Natural cold process recipe🌱

In this video I show you how I made cold process activated charcoal soap. Thank you for watching❣️ ☘️Learn to formulate your own soap recipes here: 🤍 ☘️Citric acid information: When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. I made a big mess with this one. I haven’t used a 5 lb mold before and my normal mixing bowl was too small. Instead of stopping, like a normal person would do, I kept pouring thinking “Maybe I can make it fit.” Spoiler, didn’t fit. Anyway, the ph tests fine, so the soap is all good.
