Here's everything you need to know and in-depth review of the new Garmin Enduro 2 adventure multisport watch, which brings with it larger battery life and a smattering of new features. I've put it to the test over the summer, testing out every component to see how it handles. Dive in for this complete review. With the the Enduro 2 GPS watch, Garmin has what is essentially a Fenix 7X Plus. It’s got every single feature of the Fenix 7X series, but adds more, both in hardware and software. The new Enduro 2 has the longest battery life of any Garmin watch, and depending on how you tally the solar figures – any watch in the endurance sports market. It’s got a built-in flashlight that’s twice as bright as the Fenix 7X, and it’s got new trail-focused features to automatically identify trail junctions before you go down the wrong path (even if a course isn’t loaded). I’ve been testing the Enduro 2 over the course of the summer, putting it through its paces. Both day-to-day workouts and regular 24×7 activity tracking, but also the epic 170KM Tour du Mont Blanc, with the aim of trying to complete it on a single battery charge (while still using all the features at full-tilt). The Garmin Enduro 2 is the sequel to the Enduro, a watch that was built to offer the biggest battery on a Garmin watch. Along with bolstering those tracking battery numbers, Garmin is also adding features, which surprisingly didn't make the cut on the first Enduro. You're now getting full TOPO mapping and a built-in music player. There's new features like Garmin's GNSS multiband mode to improve outdoor tracking accuracy, HRV Status and Training Readiness insights, along with other software smarts brought over from Garmin's latest Fenix 7 series and Epix watches. I've been wearing the new Garmin Enduro 2 for a week and thought I share my first impression review of the watch with you peeps! It's safe to say, as much as I love the Garmin Fenix 7X, the Enduro 2 is so good, it might covert me over to Team Enduro. Superb GPS battery life, brighter flashlight, preloaded maps and more! \\shoutout Thanks to Garmin for sending an Enduro 2 ahead of the launch! They are kind enough to send me watches without asking me to say nice things about them; I’m forever grateful! \\details Price - £929.99 (approx. $1,123.80) – actual US price TBC Availability – Available both in the US and UK from 9 August 2022 Weight - 2.5 oz/ 69 g (2.3 oz/64 g case only) \\new features There are two more exciting trail-running specific new features on offer: NextFork and Grade-adjusted Pace. NextFork is a map guide that shows the distance to the next trail intersection, as well as the name of the upcoming trail, so you have 'increased awareness of your current location', Garmin says. Grade-adjusted Pace helps runners pace themselves over varying terrain by displaying what an equivalent running pace would be on flat ground’, allowing you to adjust your pace and maintain stamina throughout a race. It's the evolution of the 3D Speed and 3D Distance features that were actually introduced in the Enduro. These change the way outdoor watches read speed and distance by taking into account elevation changes when calculating distance and speed. \\ 5 things I like Flashlight: The Garmin Enduro 2 has a physical flashlight, similar to the Fenix 7X. Not just that, but according to Garmin, the Enduro 2 contains Garmin's brightest flashlight to date! It's said to be twice as bright as Fenix 7X's flashlight, and it provides an optional strobe mode to match your cadence or a red safety light mode that 'allows users to see and be seen'. GPS battery life: The Garmin Enduro 2 can function up to 46 days in smartwatch mode and up to 150 hours in GPS mode – compare this to the Fenix 7X (37 days/122 hours with solar) and the Enduro (65 days/80 hours with solar). The battery life in smartwatch mode actually decreased, probably because of the addition of health features, but the GPS battery life is absolutely out of this world. And yes, the Enduro 2 uses Garmin's latest multi-band GNSS system for better accuracy and faster signal recovery. SatIQ: SatIQ is a GPS technology that determines the optimal GPS mode based on your environment. SatIQ switches between battery modes depending on your surroundings to ensure you always get a good signal without having to use the Max Accuracy GPS mode (as that drains the battery the most). Topo Maps: Another big change is that the Enduro 2 now has preloaded TopoActive maps. Maps were not included on the OG Enduro, which was super strange, considering that the watch was aimed at trail people. Touchscreen: You can finally also use your sausage fingers to operate the maps thanks to the touchscreen display! So much fun. \\3 things I don't like Price: The Garmin Enduro 2 was announced on 9 August 2022 and is available to buy now directly from Garmin US, Garmin UK and Garmin AU for a recommended retail price of £929.99 (approx. $1,123.80/AU$1,614.89). In comparison, the more expensive carbon version of the OG Enduro retails for a measly $899.99/£619.99/AU$1,399, so the new model is significantly more expensive than its predecessor. Lines between Fenix/Epix/Enduro are getting very blurred: It’s getting harder and harder to distinguish the three franchises. The OG Enduro didn’t have maps, the Enduro 2 does, plus touchscreen and flashlight – it’s essentially the Fenix 7X with a few extra features. The Epix has a prettier screen and no solar charging. They are all getting more expensive and feature rich. No training readiness :( And no race widget either. What’s the point? Jokes aside, there are workout suggestions, but I would’ve loved to see HRV on this watch, too, not to mention training suggestions based on upcoming (trail) races. Not one to be outdone by Apple’s big firmware updates this week, Garmin has launched the beginnings of their next quarterly update release. As you may remember, Garmin switched to the quarterly release scheme for feature updates, but that also includes bug fixes too. As usual, other bug-fix updates can happen outside that schedule as needed – but the major features are being released quarterly now, and ideally all at once across all current-gen watches (or bike computers/etc…). As part of that, Garmin has its Beta Program for each device model. That beta program starts with so-called ‘Alpha Builds’, and then after what is usually 3-5 weeks, escalates to ‘Beta Builds’. The Alpha builds must be downloaded manually to your watch using a computer, whereas the Beta builds automatically show up on your watch using WiFi/Bluetooth. Both are part of the ‘Beta Program’. Alternatively: Trainer & Chill T-Shirt: 🤍 It’s landed, the watch the 1% have been waiting for: The $1,900 Garmin MARQ Athlete, 2nd Gen edition. This watch builds upon the previous Garmin MARQ & CHRONOS lineups of fancier Fenix variants, but now switches over to the Garmin Epix series as the underlying platform. The previous MARQ editions were based on the Fenix 6 series. Of course, the Epix and Fenix 7 units are virtually identical in terms of features, just with different displays. The Epix-based MARQ Athlete now utilizes the AMOLED display instead. As with the previous MARQ editions, the differences are almost entirely based in hardware and the outward design of the watch. Aspects like case materials, buttons, and even a new charging port/cable that’s massively faster than any other Garmin watch. However, this time there is a singular new software feature being launched on the Garmin MARQ series – a jetlag advisor. And ironically enough, I’m writing this from Boeing 777 at 36,000ft headed across the Atlantic Ocean – a perfect time to show how this all works.
