Song Title: Leningrad Artist: Billy Joel Album: The Essential Billy Joel For more free midi files visit 🤍 #midi #midifiles #freemidi #freemidifiles #midicities Lyrics for 'Leningrad' by Billy Joel Viktor was born in the spring of ´44 And never saw his father anymore A child of sacrifice, a child of war Another son who never had a father after Leningrad Went off to school and learned to serve the state Followed the rules and drank his vodka straight The only way to live was down the hate A Russian life was very sad And such was life in Leningrad I was born in ´49 A cold war kid in McCarthy time Stop ´em at the 38th Parallel Blast those yellow reds to hell And cold war kids were hard to kill Under their desk in an air raid drill Haven´t they heard we won the war What do they keep on fighting for? Viktor was sent to some Red Army town Served out his time, became a circus clown The greatest happiness he´d ever found Was making Russian children glad And children lived in Leningrad But children lived in Levittown And hid in the shelters underground Until the soviets turned their ships around And tore the Cuban missiles down And in that bright October sun We knew our childhood days were done And I watched my friends go off to war What do they keep on fighting for? And so my child and I came to this place To meet him eye to eye and face to face He made my daughter laugh, then we embraced We never knew what friends we had Until we came to Leningrad
Piano tutorial of this Billy Joel's song. The song was published in his album "Storm Front" (1989). In my opinion one of Joel's best songs ever. Beautiful history and beautiful music. Evidently is a piano song. I hope that you enjoy it. The intro and the outro are not as difficult as you can think the first time that you try it. NOTE: This is a FREE NON MONETIZED VIDEO. This video is for teaching purposes only. No copyright infringements are intended. The piano sheet that you can see in the video is not the original one. Is a very basic piano sheet that I did by myself using an edition program called " Finale 2010".

German cover artist NEO sings and plays one of his all-time favorite songs about friendship and stupid wars. The background track is a carefully crafted playback with the original tempo changes. It was produced especially for the video. Piano and vocals are first-take live shots with no MIDI or overdubs. I often play this song during my concerts. It sounds just like that. And remember, the Russians are our brothers not our enemies! Update December 6, 2016: Last night I sent out this new video to some of my friends. Among them one of the members and founders of the German Peace Movement. Today I received the following e-mail answer from him: "Yesterday, 75 years ago the heroic Red Army stopped the fascist German Wehrmacht 20 km before Moscow (in the suburb Khimki) and started their counter offensive. This was the beginning of the liberation from the fascism of the time." When I read this I was in awe because I had no notion about this historic date. I only know that I had been wanting to record Leningrad for a long time and yesterday I got up and felt the compelling urge to finally do it. And even though playing and singing only took a few minutes, the whole process of recording, mixing, cutting and editing the video kept me 14 hours in front of the computer until I uploaded it shortly after(!) midnight. Magically the Youtube upload date still clocked it for December 5, 2016! I believe my grandfather partook in the pointless Siege of Leningrad. I was very connected to him... Who knows, maybe he sent me a sign of guilt or remorse from somewhere over the rainbow to make up for him 75 years later... I'm still flabbergasted. * For some historic context read here: 🤍 🤍

According to interviews, this was the most exciting series of shows he has ever performed, simply because it was a crowd of people who had never seen a western show of that scale before, and because of the healing power of music and its universality. Growing up in the heart of the "Cold War", Billy was a young boy during the the McCarthy "Red Scare" era, and came of age during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the U.S. was on the very brink of Atomic War with the U.S.S.R. Going into the Soviet Union and actually meeting the PEOPLE of Russia changed his perspective immediately and forever. One person in particular made a huge impact on him....a man named Viktor who was a circus clown, and who came to every show he performed while he was there....and somehow made it to the front row every time. They became friends....exchanged pictures, spent time together, and Viktor became the symbol of the transformation Billy went through in his own heart. Meeting these people, and realizing that they were all just like him and everyone he had known growing up, ended the cold war for Billy Joel on the spot. It caused him to forever separate a "government" from the people that make up a country. And this song was inspired from the experience, which then appeared on the following studio album, STORM FRONT, in 1989. I think this song is best summed up by what Billy often says before he plays it live....."This song isn't so much about cities as it is about friendship." #Leningrad #BillyJoel #ColdWar #Peace #Friendship #Love #PianoManSteve #SteveLungrin #AcousticCover #PianoVocal #StormFront

Billy Joel - Leningrad (piano cover by Mario Wenzel)
pf: MIDIJam Arranged by tomekkobialka This video is dedicated to all pianists who do not read sheet music. The Sixth Symphony was originally said to be a large-scale "Lenin Symphony" - a project which was often announced, but never materialised. Shostakovich had announced once in September 1938 that he was anxious to work on his Sixth Symphony, which would be a monumental composition for soloists, chorus and orchestra employing the poem Vladimir Ilyich Lenin by Vladimir Mayakovsky, but the declamatory nature of the poem made it difficult to set. He later tried to incorporate other literature about Lenin in his new symphony, but without success. In January 1939, he spoke about the Sixth Symphony in a radio address, with no mention of Lenin or any extramusical associations. The purely instrumental Symphony No. 6 was completed in September 1939. Shostakovich commented on it in the press: The musical character of the Sixth Symphony will differ from the mood and emotional tone of the Fifth Symphony, in which moments of tragedy and tension were characteristic. In my latest symphony, music of a contemplative and lyrical order predominates. I wanted to convey in it the moods of spring, joy, youth. On 21 November 1939, exactly two years after the premiere of the Symphony No. 5, the premiere of the Symphony No. 6 took place in the Large Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic in Leningrad by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under Yevgeny Mravinsky—the same location and performers. In the same programme was the Romantic Poem for violin and orchestra of Zhelobinsky. The symphony had a successful premiere, and the finale was encored. However, although a local critic lauded Shostakovich for further freeing himself from formalistic tendencies in his new symphony, the work was later criticised for its ungainly structure and the jarring juxtaposition of moods. The fact that the symphony was performed during a 10-day festival of Soviet music which included patriotic works by Prokofiev (excerpts from Alexander Nevsky) and Shaporin (On the Field of Kulikovo) probably did not help. The first recording was made by Leopold Stokowski with the Philadelphia Orchestra for RCA Victor in December 1940. (SOURCE: Wikipedia) NOTE: Here's a relevant quote from Elizabeth Wilson's book "Shostakovich: A Life Remembered": "Long before the premiere Dmitri Dmitriyevich showed the Symphony to Ivan Sollertinsky and me [Isaak Glikman]. He played the Finale through twice, and, against his custom, praised it himself: 'It's the first time I ever wrote such a successful Finale. I think even the most fastidious critics won't have anything to pick at.' He said nothing about the first and second movements. But we spoke enthusiastically of the majestic beauty of the first movement, the Largo, the brilliance of the Scherzo and the overwhelming and intoxicating Finale. I immediately fell in love with it, and, with little regard for the composer's self-effacing modesty, I enthusiastically expounded, 'If Mozart and Rossini had lived in the twentieth century, and had collaborated in writing the finale of a symphony, it would have turned out like this . . . .' - Kondrashin conducting the Presto: 🤍 MIDIJam is perhaps a little past its heyday, nevertheless you can still check it out here: 🤍

Day 36 - This song is such a slapper, ermergerd I love it! I found this band because of my love of profanity, as weird as that may be. This band is pretty much synonymous with Russian profanity (Mat), I found them because they were literally linked on the wikipedia page for Mat. So of course I had to find them on Spotify. They have a ton of music, and pretty much everything I've heard from them is wonderful! There's a very good chance I'll be playing more stuff from Leningrad, this whole album is a banger.
