In a previous video I showed how to build 6S Lithium Ion battery packs from NCR18650B cells for long range fpv and long duration quads. Now's the time to put the packs to the test and see just how they perform on a GEPRC Crocodile 7 FPV quad. Each pack weights 319g Here's the results: On a single pack 🤍 Lithium Ion capacity: 3400 mAh Flight Time: 20 minutes Final pack voltage: 19.5V Final cell voltage: 3.2V All up weight: 795g On a double pack 🤍 Lithium Ion capacity: 6800 mAh Flight Time: 34 minutes Final pack voltage: 19.5V Final cell voltage: 3.25V All up weight: 995g Check how quiet it is: 🤍 These are impressive flight times, but remember they are only lab conditions, flying around the garden at 1m. But it's a good indicator of what they are capable of. In the next video I'll get out and try some proper flights with a bit of gentle acro, but at least I know what the bench limits are. I will be carefully calibrating my OSD voltage monitor and keeping a close eye on the flight time and battery volts in the goggles OSD. Realistically I guess I'll get around 25 minutes useable flight time. I don't recommend lithium ion for acro or racing, but for long range or long duration they're a great choice. FPV drone flight up the Matterhorn's epic Hornli ridge. I've wanted to try this flight for a while and finally went for it during my month in Switzerland this winter (2022). I flew an Iflight Chimera 7 with DJI air unit and crossfire. The video was shot on a GoPro Hero 10 in 5K 30 and stabilized in Realsteadygo. I only brought 1500mah batteries so the only way to assure that I reached the summit was to get closer. I decided to leave my skis at the top of the lift and hike the rest of the way to the Hornli Hut with crampons and ice axe as the path was covered in snow and ice. I launched the drone from the Hornli Hut and I was able to fly the remaining 4000ft (1,200m) vertical and 1 mile (1.6km) distance to the summit and surf down the ridgeline. It was extremely windy and the wind just got stronger as I neared the summit but the chimera 7 performed very well. EDIT: Frame files now available here: 🤍 Testing out the new long range endurance drone. An ultralight 6 inch using the new T-Motor F2203.5 motors. I designed and built this new ultralight 6 inch (5 inch capable too) race drone to further test the limits of the new motor offering from T-Motor. I feel the slightly larger stator (2203.5) really benefits overall flight characteristics compared to similar mini long range drones in this genre. They seem to favour the 2004 size or equivalent. For users not constrained by 'sub250' then these are a worthy choice. A lot of people have asked about the frame designs and whether or not they are available. Currently I have only designed and produced these for my own testing but the encouraging feedback has prompted me to make them accessible. This video compares the Diatone Roma L5 and the GepRC Crocodile 5 Baby for long-range FPV. 5" ultralight is my favorite category of FPV drone right now. With the right camera & battery you can get super long, silent flights, perfect for getting this cinematic scenery shots. The GEPRC Crocodile 5 Baby is better tuned out of the box and is setup for lithium ion (18650) batteries and naked cameras. The Diatone L5 on the other hand has several quirks that need to be ironed out when you crack that seal, but with a few adjustments and a proper tune it is my favorite of the two with its higher KV motors and more flexible frame layout.
