This video will show how to build a driver for WS2812 Neopixel LEDs. Typically drivers for these LEDs are implemented in software. However this tutorial will show a hardware based implementation of this driver. You will learn to create the custom serial protocol used by these Neopixels through mixing the peripheral signals available on your PIC device. This will be done with the Configurable Logic Cell peripheral available on many PIC devices. Full tutorial: 🤍 RGB LED lighting strips are everywhere. Many of these strips come with a handy infrared (IR) remote control that will allow you to select different colors, change brightness, and fade from one color to the next. They're very easy to install and use, but can be rather a disappointment for the discerning LED connoisseur. The pre-programed animations and available colors on these cheap RGB strips are very basic. You can get ordinary solid colors or annoying blink modes, but buttery smooth subtle color shifts, gradients, and beautiful mesmerizing animations are far beyond the reach of these "dumb" RGB strips. For subtlety and beauty, you need NeoPixels - "smart" individually addressable LED lights that can be controlled with code. This guide will show you how to get beautiful, subtle NeoPixel animations up and running and controllable with a simple IR remote in minutes, with no coding required. The free, open-source WLED app allows you to create your own NeoPixel animations, choosing from hundreds of effects and color palettes. Automatically map your custom animations to the buttons on your IR remote, so you can choose solid colors or run your beautiful custom animations from the same controller. Full Article - 🤍 We are getting our Blinkies Popping Off Today ✨! Our latest UPDATED guide will demonstrate the fastest and most customizable way to have WS2812B LEDs controlled by your Raspberry Pi. Furthermore, WS2812B strips are fully addressable. This means each RGB LED node can display a different colour and intensity than its neighbours. WS2812B strips will do everything that non-addressable RGB strips do. In almost all regards WS2812B Strips are better as they allow for more creative LED light shows. Fancier animation/striping/chasing effects become possible when you can decide exactly what each LED Node will do. WS2812B can be referred to as NeoPixels or GlowBit LEDs. For the above reasons, WS2812B Strips are the best LEDs to choose in this form factor. WS2812B stands for | World Semi | which is the name of the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), followed by the name of the IC chip | 2812 |, followed by | B | indicating it is the 2nd big revision of this design. The IC Chips are built into each LED Node. Whether your WS2812B LED Nodes are connected on a rigid PCB or a flexible long strip the control system built in this guide can accommodate both. How to code a NEOPixel Timer with Arduino

*Want to learn more? Check out our courses!* 🤍 Arduino Sketch Build Process Website: 🤍 *Get the code, transcript, challenges, etc for this lesson on our website* 🤍 *We designed this circuit board for beginners!* Kit-On-A-Shield: 🤍 FOLLOW US ELSEWHERE - Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 Website: 🤍 Have you ever wondered how all this electronic stuff that surrounds us every day is actually programmed? Things like your toaster or your microwave or your fridge or whatever electronic widget you might be using. It all has code and electronics behind it. Well, in this lesson, we're gonna walk through the code that powers this simple turn timer, we're gonna be using a micro controller development board called Arduino. Arduinos are like really small computers that are fantastic for helping you build electronics projects. This will be your chance to throw your brain at some code and see how something like this simple turn timer is actually programed. We're gonna be talking generally about how an Arduino sketch is laid out. So even if maybe some of the code seems a bit confusing to you, I think you're gonna get a gist for how a program can be organized. We'll make sure to link to the code in the description. Now hey, before we start, if you haven't yet, please do subscribe to our channel. It costs you nothing, but it really helps us deliver great content. Also, if you have any questions as we go through this code about Arduino or the code that I'm writing, please feel free to ask it. Or if you've got some advice on how I can better write the code, please add that too, I know I am far from perfect. It's always a little bit scary throwing my code out there because I know how much experience people have in comparison to me, but, hey, as they say, what you fear most is what you most need to do. So, all right, let's go ahead and jump into this code. So let's start with the general layout of an Arduino program, and I'm gonna open up a brand new sketch just to show this. So when you open up a new sketch in your Arduino IDE, there's two functions that get prefilled for you. One is set up and one is loop. All the code in setup runs first, and it only runs once. And then all the code in the loop, it runs from the top. It goes down executes code. And when it gets to the bottom, it starts over again. So it loops over and over. So in the turn timer program, we're gonna have a setup and we're gonna have a loop just like we do in every other Arduino program. CONTINUED... 🤍 *About Us:* This Arduino lesson was created by Programming Electronics Academy. We are an online education company who seeks to help people learn about electronics and programming through the ubiquitous Arduino development board. *We have no affiliation whatsoever with Arduino LLC, other than we think they are cool.*

12 x 12 NeoPixel Ping Pong Ball Array: Adding a 9DOF Motion and Orientation Sensor

1790

00:02:19
02.11.2020

This is a follow-on to our previous "Multi-Drips + Splash Effect" experiment (🤍 In this case, we’ve added a 9DOF (nine degrees of freedom) motion and orientation sensor to the array. We’re using a Fusion breakout board (BOB) from Adafruit (🤍 This little scamp features a BNO055 microelectromechanical system (MEMS) sensor from Bosch. In turn, this sensor boasts a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis gyroscope, and a 3-axis magnetometer. All we are doing is this first test is to detect when the array is tilter past a certain point and use the direction of tilt to “roll” a “ball” (in the form of an illuminated pixel) around the array. At the moment, the “ball” rolls at a constant speed, irrespective of the amount of tilt. The next step will be to model some physics so the “ball” appears to exhibit inertia; also, that it’s acceleration and speed will be a function of the amount of tilt. Later, we might create a game, like having green “food” pixels randomly appear on the array. By rolling the “ball” pixel into a “food” pixel before it randomly disappears again, the player will get a point. We might also add randomly appearing and disappearing red “hole” particles. The number of active “holes” could gradually increase over time. If the “ball” meets one of these pixels, it “falls down the hole” and the game is over. Players take it in turns. The one with the most points wins. I’m sure we can come up with all sorts of games like this. For your delectation and delight, all of this is discussed in more detail in the January 2021 issue of Practical Electronics (PE), which is the UK's premier electronics, computing, hobbyist, and maker magazine (🤍). Both print and digital versions of back issues of the magazine are available for purchase (🤍 Even better, the code for each of my sketches (programs) discussed in my PE columns is available for free download even if you don’t have a subscription to the magazine (🤍
