Possibly this is the most useless video I've ever did. I mean... 6-7 minutes would have been more than enough to enjoy how good this GTE-class race car sounds like around an almost empty Monza Circuit. Maybe I lost my hearing a bit but it has been such an experience listen to it screaming all around the track for something like 6 days (two different test sessions of 3-days each). Back in August, Porsche was at Monza Circuit with two of their Porsche 911 RSR-19 cars. As you may remember these '2019/2020' specs GTE racers featured a fully revised body kit, from a new front bumper and hood, new mirrors, rear diffuser, wing profile, to that new side exhaust system placed on the side of the car, just in front of the rear wheels. The RSR-19 introduced also an upgraded 4.2-liter flat-6 engine. Customers and private teams were still using the previous-gen 911 GTE car for the 2019/2020 season but it was obvious that sooner or later Porsche would have provided them the new spec RSRs. So back to the actual video up here, these two RSR-19s weren't with the factory side exhaust but with a revised rear exiting arrangement, similar to the one of the infamous screming RSR 2017. The only 'problem' was the visible and audible presence of a muffler on this exhaust. Thanks to being back to a rear-central layout, the cars have in fact regained the high-pitched sound we all love and loved but sound level is quite far from the 2017-spec cars. It's in a good middle way between these and the GT3-class 911 GT3 R, to be fair. Of course back in August I wasn't aware of what they were testing. I mean, I thought that new exhaust was there for their factory cars maybe in view of the (at that time) upcoming Le Mans 24h or a 2021 spec RSR but still for the factory team. But in these last months it turned out they were testing the RSR-19 GTEs as the private teams will received them starting from next year. It also seems confirmed by Porsche itself that this muffled exhaust layout has been tested and adopted to reduce and comply with new decibel limits coming in 2021 and also to allow teams to join test days at more race tracks where noise rules are stricter. In fact the RSR-19 with side exhaust was even louder than the 2017 RSR by a couple of dB while with this muffled exhaust it should be around 10 dB quieter. For 2023 some manufacturers have updated their GT3-class weapons and now many teams are receiving these new cars before the start of the season. That's the case of the Italian team Dinamic GT, which was at Misano World Circuit to test their new Porsche 992 GT3 Rs a couple of weeks ago during a Kateyama professional track day. The 2023 911 GT3 R is Porsche's evolution to their 991.2 GT3 R and of course it's besed on the 992 generation. From my point of view and from what I've seen since the first spy images were released, this GT3 R seems to have taken many aero characteristics of the RSR-19 GTE. As for the RSR, the naturally-aspirated flat-6 engine had an increase in displacement from 4.0 to 4.2-litre. It was also tilted forward 5.5 degrees to create more space for the rear diffuser. The 1973 Porsche 911 is a iconic car, dominating its class in racing in the early '70s. Jon Gunderson, well known for his restoration work, built this along with two other RSR tribute cars, that he as dubbed the "RSR Rebel". Gunderson always builds his cars to the highest quality, with no expense spared and attention paid to every detail on the build. Each of the three Porsche RSR created is slightly different, with this car sporting 3.8L engine built by the same people who built the first round of Singer Porsche Motors. The original 911 tub was taken down the the bare metal and car was completely reworked, all the fender flares hand crafted steel. It is truly a high quality replica built to the finest standards. So I finally heard and recorded what I consider the best sounding car in the WEC 2018 field but I was quite undecided whether to upload the standard audio video or something with the binaural. The choice fell on the latter. Mainly because the full dedicated video to the 2018 Porsche RSR will be something like 20-min long and yesterday I didn't have much time to edit it. Not really happy with the result of this binaural compilation, honestly. The 911 RSR is too loud and I had to throw away 50% of the audio recordings I did both because my "3D" microphone can't handle that noise level (from particular spots) and even my portable recorder, to which the mic is linked, doesn't give me a hand in these occasions at all. So I'm sorry since some of the fly bys are distorted and audio level drops drastically for brief moments. Need to update both things soon... In this video you can also hear the other Porsche's that were testing the same day, namely the new 2019 991.2 GT3 R, the upcoming Cayman 718 GT4 Clubsport and that curious GT2 RS-based test mule. Hope you liked it! - What the hell is a 3D/Binaural recording? - Binaural recordings are reproductions of sound the way human ears hear it. Traditionally, recordings have been made using mono or stereo. Mono uses a single microphone while stereo uses two, spaced apart from each other. Binaural recording takes the stereo method one step further by placing two microphones approximately at the same average distance that exists between one and the other human ear. To recreate the best effect you must put the microphones in your ears or by using a "dummy head" (wherein a mannequin head is outfitted with a microphone in each ear) because having a real head or a head shape that separates the two microphones is what makes the magic works. In fact if a car passes on your left side the sound will take a few extra microseconds to reach the right ear and it will also be louder in one ear (left) than the other. Follow me on instagram for more: 🤍 Cinematography & edit: Steve Ketner Assistant camera & drone: Pasxalis Terzis Camera car: Christos Athanasopoulos The car was built from scratch in Germany in 🤍dpmotorsport garage and right after it was shipped to Greece where it leaves now. It’s based on a 964 chassis and the look is from 1973 911 RSR (backdate as they used to call them). The specific look is called 911 Classic RSR Lightweight since all body parts (full kit) are made from carbon Kevlar. Engine is from a 964 but fully rebuild and tuned to 340hp. Gearbox is from 993 GT2m (Manual-6 speed). Total weight is 980kg so you can do the math.
This RSR recreation is a high level build featuring factory RSR wheels, factory sport seats, factory plastic fuel tank, and 300whp 3.6L twin plug engine.
