In this video, we soundproof my ZPAS SJB server rack with some Pyrosorb-S Class 0 acoustic foam. Then, as this form also acts as a thermal insulator, we upgrade the cooling system with an AC Infinity Controller 12 rackmount fan controller and a pair of AC Infinity MULTIFAN S3 fans. We then take a look at some test results to see how much of a difference the sound insulation worked, and I was very pleasantly surprised! Use this simple IKEA hack to build your own server rack for mounting GitLab servers, storage servers, NAS devices, compute servers, web servers, and much more. You only need three IKEA LACK tables, a set of castor wheels, and depending on your preference - hot glue or long screws. We went with the glue method since we aren’t mounting anything extremely heavy in our 25 euro IKEA server rack. Overall, this is a fantastic IKEA hack that everyone in the IT sphere should know about. The distance between the legs on these LACK tables is exactly the width of a standard rack mount server and you can stack them to make as tall a rack as you need. Because of it’s wooden construction, it’s easy to screw your devices in at whatever height you wish. While it might not be as sturdy as something made out of metal, it’s a fantastic option for the tech startup, indie game development studio, or the home enthusiast. Music: Vasil Kichev 🤍

In this video I build an open frame network rack from scratch, explaining along the way the each step and the reason I am doing it the way that I am. This is intended for a small business network, not a home residence. I made this video for first time builders, so I try not to assume that you have built a lot of these and that you are looking for some general guidance. With an open frame rack, taking control of the giant pile of wires you end up with is more important than ever - both on the front of the rack and the rear where the cables are entering. Below are the items I used in this video - these are Amazon links that help me out, but of course you don't have to use them. Moving into a new house is always exciting... Especially when I get to plan out a new home network. Today, I update you on what's in my home server rack, and what plans the future holds for it. But first... What am I drinking??? Irresistible Amber Ale from Madison River Brewing Co (Montana). This is exactly what an Amber Ale should be... super malty, almost bordering on too sweet, but still very well balanced with a bit of a hoppy finish. Definitely on my recommended list. Noise level was the one factor I overlooked when I purchased a rack mountable server for the lab over a year ago. To dampen the noise and to tidily store my current and future network equipment, I took on the challenge of building my own server cabinet from wood. An evaluation of functionality, air flow and noise level is shown in the final 5 minutes of the video. More details and behind the scenes pictures can be found on my science blog here - 🤍
