This isn't something I'm particularly good at, btw! But I've recently started skipping more and I've been loving it. See, skipping is one of the most convenient and efficient ways to burn calories, get the blood pumping, and boost your energy. You can do little ten minute stints of skipping wherever you are and that's going to add up, fast! But the great thing is that skipping does much more than just burning calories. Skipping can also: improve your sense of rhythm and timing, increase your ankle stiffness, train the brain, keep you lighter on your feet, and increase bone density. What really makes this so valuable, is that this is a way to get some *jumping* into your routine. Jumping is what I would consider a "fundamental human movement." I'm so excited to bring you this fun and new-style workout for my channel. Today, we will be performing a cardio workout routine using a jump rope. Don't panic! If you don't have a jump rope, you can just pretend and it will still be effective :) We are doing 20 seconds on with a 10-second rest. Repeating for 8 reps and doing 3 sets in total. O can personally testify to the fact that jumping rope has made my feet much faster. This gave me a lot of edge as I fought my opponents as a professional boxer. In this video, I am going to share with you how to jump rope like a boxer. My name is Tony Jeffries, Olympic medalist and retired professional boxer. I am now co-owner of Box 'N Burn, two boxing fitness gyms in Los Angeles, as well as the Box 'N Burn Academy where we train professional boxing trainers. During my career I won the national championship 7 times, and also became European champion. In this video, I am going to teach you How to Jump Rope like a Boxer. There are actually 4 different variations of Jump Rope. 1. Initial Stage to Beginner 2. Beginner to Intermediate and 3. Intermediate to Advance. If you have never jumped rope before, this video is for you. The first thing you need to do to get started is checking the length of the rope. As you do that, make sure you adjust the rope to be just a bit higher than the height of your hip. Try and be positive as you get started. Avoid thoughts that make you feel like you can never do it, or you just can't do it. You probably won't jump rope very well on your first day but don't let that stop you. Just as any other skill in life, you will get better at it with practice. My current ability to jump rope was not built overnight so you shouldn’t expect that either. How do you start Jumping rope? You start with the rope behind your feet and hands in front. From here, all you're going to do is turn your wrists. I often see people who try and turn their arm as well, but that's just too much. You are just going to turn your wrist slightly. First, I am going to do a bigger turn with my arms to get the rope around and then it's going to be small turns with my wrist from there. A huge reason why jumping rope is amazing for people who want to reduce or manage their weight is its ability to torch large amounts of calories. Jumping rope is a cardio exercise, which means it makes your heart work faster. This, in turn, requires more oxygen, forcing your body to work extra hard, and ultimately, burn more calories. The more intense an exercise is, the more calories it burns. In fact, you`d need to run an 8-minute mile to surpass the number of calories burned by jumping rope. But if you`re thinking of skipping rope every single day, then eventually, your coordination and motor skills will improve. It was shown that players who had been jumping rope displayed improved balance and motor coordination. Besides improving your skipping rope skill, better coordination also benefits other daily activities like walking and driving. Next up is how skipping rope every day makes your legs stronger. Jumping rope is pretty much jumping up and down many times. And it`s also because of this very nature that makes this exercise great leg training. Based on a study, regular rope jumping significantly improves leg strength and sprinting speed. This exercise works your major leg muscles, including the calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes. By following a daily jump rope routine, it`s not much of a surprise how these muscles get stronger over time. Over time, daily skipping rope can make your bones stronger. When you jump rope, it puts stress in your bones through impact. And since jumping rope mainly engages the legs, the increased bone density in the lower body is much greater. Although skipping rope primarily involves the legs, it`s also a full-body movement, which means you`re engaging all muscles in your body. In particular, this exercise engages your arms, abs, and lower body muscles. I'll never forget the first time I watched it, and how amazed I was. I didn't know someone could be that good at jumping rope. So I set out to learn Floyd Mayweather's toughest skipping routine with the goal of doing it in 50 days. This was by far the hardest challenge I have ever taken on, and really forced me to take my jump rope skills to the next level. Over the course of this jump rope challenge, I was pushed to my limits, but overall I think I developed new jump rope skills, mastered new jump rope moves, and became a more resilient person.
