Later edit: I do want to make a disclaimer, I'm finding that some people are getting this Muji pen and finding that the ink it comes with by default is actually very lousy. I apologize I never said anything about this as I never tried the ink it came with, I got a piston converter for it and put Platinum Carbon black ink in it, and it works great that way. Anyways, just be aware that for some reason, it seems like they do ship it with very unsatisfying ink. I recently found the Muji gel pens, and now that I've used this aluminum fountain pen by Muji, I think it's safe to say that Muji is one of my new favorite brands. It may be a passing obsession, as my obsessions often are, but I'm enjoying it for now. From taking notes during meetings and Zoom calls, to productivity-planning and process-design, the frequency at which I use my Lamy Safari fountain pens is pretty nuts, which is all to say that I think I'm at least kind of qualified to talk about them, haha. In this video I go through everything, from the unboxing, taking a look at the design features, the initial setup, Lamy Safari cleaning, Lamy Safari nibs (nib sizes and how to change nibs), how to do a Lamy Safari ink refill, and of course writing tests, samples, and share the inks and Lamy Ink Convertor tips. There's something visceral about writing things down by hand, and something even more special yet after I started using fountain pens. Maybe it's some old-world charm; maybe it's the intentionalism required in minor upkeep, but either way, after I took the plunge into using the Lamy Safari as my primary EDC pen, there's been no turning back. The "problem" with fountain pens though, is that they can get real expensive real quickly, and so the Lamy Safari is a great entry-level fountain pen, attainable at about $20 USD, compared to the hundreds of dollars for some other models. The Safari by Lamy has become a bit of a cult-classic and a combination of the design, ease of use, design, history, and longevity, make it easy to see why. If you asked me two years ago, I would've never considered a fountain pen as an everyday carry pen because when I thought of fountain pens, I'd think of my grandpa's shirt with ink-stains on the pockets and figured they'd be way too finicky to enjoy as an EDC writing tool, but like most things that have stood the test of time, improvements have been made over the decades and centuries and the Lamy Safari fountain pen is no different. The pens with lots of clear solid acrylic like this make me think of laboratory glassware, which is something I'm very interested in and inspired by. There was a lot of smudging in this drawing, I think due to the fancy ink I was using, since I don't usually run into this problem with the regular black inks I use. Well, there's always a little smudging here and there but this was just a lot. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as the majority of fountain pens and fountain pen inks are used to just write stuff, where (unless you have a weird grip) you hardly ever put your hand on top of ink on the paper. But yeah, I'm a Moonman fan :) I like em! I journal using Korean stationery on a 6 ring binder.
