Blackvue have always been a few steps ahead of the competition and this model makes no exceptions. We are starting with the unboxing – And it is nothing but great – the main and the rear unit are proudly laying in the box, waiting for you to grab and install them. The box is full of the needed accessories, and besides the regular cables, mounts and adhesives – there even is a microSD card, which has the size of 32GB! Thumbs up for that decision – not only shows commitment to supply the best set of accessories with its dashcams, but also Blackvue may save you from the frustration and hassle of getting a bad performing microSD. Since we are covering the specifications – these are well visible on Blackvue’s website – the front module has 8MP sensor, and the rear one operates with a 2.1 Mpix sensor. Field of view is wider on the front – 162, and a bit more narrow at the back – 139. For recording resolutions you have a choice between full HD and 4K. Blackvuew have done a remarkable job explaining the benefits of both 4K and H265 on their website I mentioned GPS tracking – and of course – it is part of the features. Extremely accurate and very quick to acquire satellites. Even in cloudy and snowy days it identifies the location within thirty seconds, even if I am taking the car out of an underground garage. Concerning all these specs so far – there’s a thing which is quite remarkable – it is all on blackvue’s website, very well organized and you can access any kind of information within seconds. Also you have access to the database with solutions and the help center, which is brilliant. Just as everything we explored so far – the installation is super easy. The cables are lengthy and will suit most of the vehicles out there. The rear module cable is generously long, and it will fit in trucks with long base too. There’s one thing that differs a lot this rear module from other dashcams – this one is being installed INSIDE the car, and besides not being exposed to weather conditions, it also does NOT require any special kind of cabling. Connecting to the power is the other interesting topic. Plenty of options – you can of course use the standard power adapter for the car’s cigar lighter. But there are two other possibilities, especially if you are interested in parking mode! You may take the Power Magic ULTRA battery, or the phenomenal and pretty new Power Magic EZ kit, which connects to the OBD port of the car. I will show you both of them in a separate video. Certainly – all that comes at the relatively high price of around 500 bucks. But it is much more than a dashcam – I could easily call it a mobile super-smart surveillance system. I have though a lot and … so far couldn’t find a weak spot of this model. UPDATE 9/21/21: I just got an email from Garmin saying that with firmware v2.70 they now allow you to turn off the annoying beeps! Yay! Two years ago I bought and reviewed the original Garmin Dash Cam Mini. Now the new Dash Cam Mini 2 is out, and I have been testing it for over 2 weeks in the July Texas heat, and here are my results.
